Contemporary Sparkle: Art Glass from the Permanent Collection

The year 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the development of studio art glass in America. To commemorate this milestone and recognize the may talented artists the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass organized a national initiative which includes more than 160 glass demonstrations, lectures, and exhibitions that will take place in museums, galleries, art centers, universities, festivals and other venues across the United States throughout 2012.
The D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts celebrates the anniversary through this exhibition that features a selection of American and international artists represented in the museum's permanent collection, including a recent gift to the museum from Susan V. Piccin.
The art glass on view includes work by Dale Chihuly and Josh Simpson, as well as Per Lutken, Gunnel Nyman, Vicke Lindstrand, Flavio Poli and Gino Cenedese. The exhibtion also features work by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) including vases and lamps along with examples of work by French glass designer Rene Jules Lalique (1860-1945).
