Video: WGBY's Connecting Point

Stored on a shelf for over 100 hundred years, a rare anthropological treasure was recently discovered in the Springfield Science Museum’s permanent collections. Originally cataloged as an “Aleutian hat,” the artifact had been preserved in museum collections for over a century before being identified last month as a war helmet from the Tlingit people of Alaska. Beautifully carved and with much of the original paint still visible, the helmet is one of a relatively small number in existence worldwide. The program takes place on the first Friday of each month from September through May, and features an introductory talk on topics such as space exploration, seasonal sights of the night sky, current astronomical research, or upcoming events like eclipses or comet appearances.
