Waterfowl Stamp Exhibit
Springfield Science Museum
September 11, 2006
Original paintings of antique waterfowl decoys will be on display in the Massachusetts 2007 Waterfowl Stamp Exhibit at the Springfield Science Museum from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
The Massachusetts stamp is the only waterfowl stamp in the country requiring the design to be of working decoys — ducks, geese or shorebirds — made by deceased Massachusetts decoy makers. The exhibit celebrates both the art of decoy carving as well as the talent of the artists participating in the contest. The exhibit will include the winning artist's work plus all other qualifying entries.
Also on display will be historic and modern duck decoys alongside mounted specimens of the waterfowl, some of which are extinct or endangered, from the Science Museum collections.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, Massachusetts Ducks Unlimited, and the Allen Bird Club.
