Ed Faits, a director of the Springfield Stars Club, will present “Spectacular Saturn” on Friday, May 6, at 7:30 pm at the Springfield Science Museum.
In May, the ringed planet will be well placed for viewing and its rings will appear considerably wider open than they have in recent years. Following the talk, the museum’s large rooftop telescope will be opened to view Saturn. If the sky is overcast, a planetarium show will be presented instead.
Stars Over Springfield observatory programs are offered on the first Friday of each month from September through May. The program features an introductory program on topics such as space exploration, seasonal sights of the night sky, current astronomical research, or an explanation of events such as an eclipse or the appearance of a comet.
Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children 17 and under. The programs are best suited for families with children ages 8 and older, however younger children are also welcome.
