September 11, 2006

Nature photography by camera artist John Green of Belchertown, Mass., will be on view from Sept. 26, 2006 through Jan. 7, 2007 in the Community Gallery at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts. The public is invited to a free reception with the artist on Oct. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Community Gallery exhibitions are sponsored by The Republican.

Green has been photographing nature for more than 30 years and has created an impressive body of work. He has been featured on the television series "PBS Kids," and his print work and slide shows have been exhibited widely throughout the Pioneer Valley.

Green is also an interpretive naturalist and is especially skilled in bird and plant identification. He also has a working knowledge of many mammals, insects, reptiles and amphibians. He has run a field school on nature photography for the Massachusetts Audubon Society for more than 15 years and leads photographic excursions all over the country.

He has lived in Western Massachusetts since 1972 and often photographs the wilds of Quabbin Reservoir, presenting his slide shows to civic and nature groups.

In addition to his exhibition at the museum, Green is offering a four-session Nature Photography course in October at the Museum School. For information about the course, call the Museum School at 413-263-6800, ext. 377.
