Glass artist Josh Simpson will speak about his work on Sunday, January 6, at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts. The talk is free with the price of museum admission.
He will also discuss his recent commission from the Corning Museum of Glass to create a huge Megaplanet, the making of which was the subject of the PBS documentary Defying Gravity. At 107 pounds, the planet is the world's largest glass paperweight.
The presentation has been planned in conjunction with Josh Simpson: A Visionary Journey in Glass, a retrospective exhibition of more than 100 works from the artist's personal collection, on view at the Museum of Fine Arts through February 3.
Seating for the lecture is limited and will be available first-come, first-served. A reception for members of the Springfield Museums will follow the talk. For information about membership or to join, call 413.263.6800, ext. 255.
