United States Capitol. Washington, DC.
The United States Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. It is located in Washington D.C. on top of Capitol Hill at the east end of the National Mall. The building is noted for its central dome above a rotunda and two wings, one for each chamber of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Designed by William Thorton, the building was constructed from 1793 to 1829.
Currier & Ives printed images of popular buildings and structures as visual documentation of what was happening in America.
