Image for A Pair of Nutcrackers

A Pair of Nutcrackers

Two squirrels sitting on tree branch nestled in woods eating acorns; bird on lower branch to their left. From the Inventory Listing of Sidney A. Alpert "Pair of Nutcrackers, The/ Und - S "

This sentimental image of two squirrels sitting on a tree branch eating acorns with a bird looking on, is an example of a light-hearted “parlor” print created by Currier & Ives. The rich colors and circular composition romanticize the rodent which was frequently hunted in the nineteenth century.
