A New England Home
By 1850, New England was regarded by many Americans as "authentic" America, an area that remained largely unchanged by the nation's rapidly growing cities. Currier & Ives encouraged this nostalgia through scenes such as "A New England Home". The prints were sold primarily to transplanted New Englanders who moved to New York City and other metropolitan areas in search of job opportunities and higher pay.
