Bass Fishing

Row boat at center with boy sitting in it on left and man next to him pulling fishing line out of water with fish in tow. Sail boats and coastline in background. From the Inventory Listing of Sidney A. Alpert "Bass Fishing/ (7.15x12.7) Und. N. Currier (New Best 50) - S"

Currier & Ives published many sporting prints. Bass Fishing depicts a father and son enjoying an afternoon on the water. Men no longer had to hunt or fish to put food on the table. The city markets provided everything a family could need. Thus, hunting and fishing developed into a gentlemen’s sport. Here, a father, dressed in a conventional coat and necktie, teaches his son this new pastime. Their day of fishing is certain to be a success, as they reel in their first catch.
