Bass Fishing
Currier & Ives published many sporting prints. Bass Fishing depicts a father and son enjoying an afternoon on the water. Men no longer had to hunt or fish to put food on the table. The city markets provided everything a family could need. Thus, hunting and fishing developed into a gentlemen’s sport. Here, a father, dressed in a conventional coat and necktie, teaches his son this new pastime. Their day of fishing is certain to be a success, as they reel in their first catch.
