A Home In The Wilderness
This idealized winter view of the frontier features a log cabin in the woods with smoke gently rising from its chimney. A man and his son return home after a successful day of hunting. One child enjoys ice skating on the nearby frozen pond while another assists her mother in feeding the family's chickens. Currier & Ives' romantic scenes of the wilderness were instrumental in encouraging Easterners to consider moving west into the beautiful and bountiful land.
