May 15, 2014
The Springfield Museums will wrap up their 2013-2014 Culture & Cocktails series with an evening of “Modern Art and Mojitos” on Thursday, June 5 from 5-8 pm at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. The sponsor of the evening’s event is Health New England.
Visitors will have the chance to be the first to see the Museum’s newest exhibit, American Moderns, 1910-1960: From O’Keeffe to Rockwell which opens to the general public the following day. The exhibit features master Modern paintings from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum, including works by George Bellows, Lionel Feininger, Reginald Marsh and Paul Sample, among many others.
As a special treat, folk-rock artists Jamie Kent and the Options will perform in the Museum’s Davis Auditorium to end this year’s series in proper fashion. The Northampton-based band is fresh from their recent appearance at the prestigious South By Southwest Festival (SXSW), and their single “Broke, Not Broken" was recently premiered on RollingStone.com.
As the evening’s title suggests, mojitos will be the specialty cocktail of the evening at the cash bar provided by Elegant Affairs. One complimentary mojito will be provided to each guest while supplies last.
Culture and Cocktails events take place on the first Thursday of most months, and are open to ages 21 and up. Admission is free for members of the Springfield Museums and $5 for nonmembers. There is a special exhibition fee of $5 for all visitors who wish to view American Moderns Both museum members and nonmembers are encouraged to make advance reservations through www.springfieldmuseums.org or by phone at 413.263.6800, ext. 255.
