Museums Offer Free Admission to Veterans, Programs for Families on 11/11

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Springfield Museums is offering free admission to current or retired members of the military on Monday, November 11. Although the Museums campus is normally closed on Mondays, all four museums and the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden will be open for families and visitors to enjoy on the holiday.
Special family programming is scheduled for the day, including a special performance of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by The Puppet People. Focusing on themes of bullies, jealousy and superstition this show features life-sized puppets, hand-crafted marionettes, special effects, and both classical and traditional folk music.
The day’s events will also include Gallery Science demonstrations, where visitors can explore the Science Museum and look for the Roving Scientist (11 am – 2 pm), as well as art projects and costume stations in the Art Discovery Center of the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum (12:00 – 3:45 p.m.). The Seymour Planetarium will also present shows at 11:15 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm (extra fee for nonmembers).
The day is part of the Museums’ Family Fun series, which is supported by the TD Charitable Foundation. MassMutual is the 2013 Premier Sponsor of The Springfield Museums.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and college students, $8 for children 3-17, and free for children under three and museum members. General admission is free for Springfield residents with proof of address. Free onsite parking is available.
