Chinese New Year Celebration

The Springfield Museums' Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with A Chinese New Year Celebration: The Year of the Boar. Activities are free with museum admission.

Weekend Family Fun programs are sponsored by T.D. Banknorth.

Performance:

City Stage Co., an educational performing arts group from Boston, presents Folktales East and West, an interactive performance of three stories including "The Tale of the Three Little Boars" and "Why Rat Came First," a traditional tale of Chinese New Year and the zodiac animals. 1:30 & 2:30 p.m., Springfield Science Museum

Ongoing Activities:

Discover your Chinese zodiac sign and make an origami pig in celebration of the Year of the Boar in the Art Discovery Center. 11 a.m.–3:45 p.m., George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum.

See a demonstration of Chinese brush calligraphy and try it yourself. Every half hour, 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum.

Go on a scavenger hunt to discover the Chinese treasures in the collections. 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum.

Learn about Chinese ancient healing arts from local practitioners. 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum.
