January “Stars Over Springfield” Program at the Science Museum

December 18, 2012

The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, January 4, at 7:30 pm. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is cloudy, a planetarium show will be presented in place of telescope viewing.

Recent Deaccessioning from the D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts

Over the last ten years, the staff of the Springfield Museums has carried out a thorough review of its permanent collections held at the Michele and Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts and the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. One of the outcomes of this review has been the award of a planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to study the gallery installations at the GWV Smith Art Museum with the goal of making the collection more relevant and meaningful to the community we serve.

Art Experts Attend Summit at Springfield Museums

Earlier this month, the Springfield Museums hosted a panel of distinguished art scholars who gathered with staff to discuss the reinterpretation of the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. The group, which included experts from the art world, museums and academia, met as part of an ongoing evaluation of the GWV Smith museum's collections, its exhibits, and its mission. The conference was funded by a planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
