City of Industry: Innovation and Manufacturing
Investigate the Industrial Revolution through the lens of metro Springfield’s industrial past — birthplace of the American automobile industry and Indian Motocycle, gun making at the National Armory and Smith & Wesson, and home of numerous innovations, including Blanchard’s lathe. Topics include the role of immigration, rural migration, the growth of cities and development of downtown shopping districts.
