Frogs: A Chorus of Colors - Home School Day

Enter the colorful, sound-filled world of frogs! This special exhibition features 15 naturalistic habitats filled with rock ledges, plants and waterfalls that are home to a selection of live frogs and toads from around the planet. Learn more

9:30 am Arrivals
Meet and greet with fellow homeschoolers.
10-11 am Amazing Amphibians
An interactive program exploring amphibians, their life cycle and specific adaptations, and importance as bio-indicators. Participants will engage in a hands-on demonstration of the adaptations, discover what makes amphibian skin so important, and create a frog chorus!
11-11:30 am The Life Cycle of Frog & Toad Game
A giant canvas creates the world of frog and toad as participant teams answer trivia questions about various aspects of frogs, toads, and amphibians to get their eggs to hatch and grow to be adults. But be careful—predators and environmental conditions may hinder their development through the stages of life. First team to complete the path to adulthood wins!
11:30 am-noon Special Exhibit Exploration
Combining geography and exploration of Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, participants must locate various types of frogs and toads in the gallery and place their pictures on a map to show their distribution around the world.
Noon-1 pm Lunch Break
Bring a brown bag lunch and enjoy visiting with fellow homeschoolers. Museum staff will also be on hand to answer any programming questions.
1-2 pm Just Survive! Animal Adaptation Game
Participants experience the challenges of daily survival as they assume the identities of animals with different adaptations. The object is to acquire food water and shelter within their habitat, while keeping out of the clutches of the dreaded predator.
2-5 pm Museum Exploration
Tour all our world-class museums on your own.
