Us and Them: Discrimination during the Holocaust and Today
Students will use artifacts and documents donated by the former Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center to immerse themselves in the experience of the local survivor families who settled in the greater Springfield area during and after World War II. By doing so, students will understand the discrimination, persecution and hatred Holocaust victims endured in their native Europe. Subsequently, students will identify and discuss the behaviors that can lead to bullying, exclusion, hate crimes and genocide with a focus on what it means to be an upstander or a bystander.
