STARLAB: The Portable Planetarium
Bring the Universe to your students with STARLAB, the Springfield Science Museum’s portable planetarium!
STARLAB allows astronomy to be presented in a school environment by one of the Springfield Science Museum’s astronomy staff. Two programs are offered and include special focus on the astronomy-related standards in the Curriculum Frameworks for Grades Pre-K to 2 and Grades 3-5. Shows can be tailored to fit your curriculum needs, with greater emphasis placed on certain topics like phases of the Moon, seasons, the Earth-Sun-Moon system, etc.
STARLAB can be set up inside any indoor space with a smooth, flat floor that measures no less than 25 x 25' and with a ceiling at least 12' high. In addition to this space, a regular three-pronged, 120-volt outlet should be within easy access.
Rental Fee: $150 for one or two shows, $50 per additional show, or $300 per day (5 shows maximum). A traveling fee is added for sites beyond Greater Springfield.
