Lecture: The Art of Deception

Lecture: The Art of Deception

March 9th, 2:00 pm

Michele & Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts

Colette Loll, curator of Intent to Deceive and an art fraud expert, will discuss the five forgers profiled in her exhibition, exposing their infamous legacies and analyzing how their talent, charm and audacity beguiled the art world.  She will highlight a few of the more notable artworks on display in the exhibition, explaining how they fooled the experts that authenticated and validated them, and why each poses a unique threat to cultural heritage.

Mark Forgy, heir to the estate of Elmyr de Hory, and author of The Forger’s Apprentice: Life with the World’s Most Notorious Artist will share his intimate and personal view of the man who turned the art world upside down. As a personal friend and confidant of this infamous Hungarian, Mark offer unique insights into the passions and secrets that drove this prolific forger.

Free with museum admission. Seating is limited.*

*Tickets distributed starting at 11 am day of lecture (one per person).

Exclusive Reception for Patron and Society of William Rice members will follow the lecture. (Reservations closed on March 5.)
