Museums à la Carte Lecture
September 26th, 12:15 pmGeneral Museum Event
Art in Our Lives, Then and Now
Richard Muhlberger, former director of the Springfield Art Museums, adjunct professor of art and architectural history, Western New England University, author of 16 books and numerous publications on art and artists.
The lecture begins with German artist Albrecht Dürer’s diary of 1541. It is the first such diary of an artist which tells that art then was clearly meant for the elite. Currently, art experts feel that the most important contemporary art has always been difficult to recognize and understand. The lecture will also cover artists who define creativity and who make clear their struggles to show their inner thoughts. References will be made to the Springfield Museums’ paintings by Picasso, Renoir, O’Keeffe, and Frankenthaler.
