Academic Artists 60th Anniversary Exhibition

Founded in Springfield in 1949 by artist Harriet Randall Lumis, the Academic Artists Association now boasts a national membership of more than 250 artists. Early members of the group met in Lumis’s studio. Lumis was an artist and teacher in Springfield. In celebration of its 60th anniversary, this invitational exhibition presents 60 works in a variety of media by award-winning artists. The Academic Artists Association promotes both traditional and contemporary realism. The term “academic” refers to artists who combine a strong foundation in drawing with skilled use of perspective, color and other techniques to create representational art.
