What Happens When People Drink Tea in Novels and Plays
Claire Hopley, Ph.D, Author
Novels, plays, and even children’s books have lots of tea-drinking scenes. It’s easy to think of these as minor details, but in fact, authors have used tea times to suggest what will happen to their characters. This lecture explores this theme with examples from several plays and novels, including Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, Edith Wharton’s House of Mirth, L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables and Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
