The Conservation and Restoration of the Stained Glass Windows at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, Washington, D.C.
Glenn Shalan, owner, Shalan Stained Glass, North Adams, MA
In October 2007, Shalan Stained Glass in North Adams, MA. was contracted to restore the ten stained glass sanctuary windows at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Washington, D.C. Originally designed in 1932 by Oliver Smith, the windows had reached the end of their first lifespan. Over the course of the next eighteen months, the studio removed, restored and reinstalled 900 square feet of stained glass. A slide presentation will document step by step the in-studio restoration process with attention to both the aesthetic and structural issues in a stained glass restoration project.
