Art Deco: And All That Jazz
Gloria Russell, art historian and critic
From the mid-1920s until around 1940, the dominant style in art, architecture and design was Moderne. Its elements, appearing in both high fashion and popular trends, included streamlining, dazzling decorative patterns, exotic motifs, and abstracted forms, all meant to celebrate modern times and machine age technology. Russell will review this era through the examination of iconic European and American Art Deco works, with a special focus on the early 20th century collection of the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Featured artists will include Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Sheeler, Reginald Marsh, Paul Sample, Andre Ruellen, Rene Lalique and Paul Frankl.
Davis Auditorium, Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
