Youth & Family
There's always something fun to do at the Springfield Museums and Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden Many
adventures and activities change from week to week.
Weekend Family Fun Events
Each program includes a performance, art and science demonstrations, and hands-on craft workshops in keeping with the theme of the program. Activities are designed to highlight holidays, special exhibitions, cultural traditions and topics with lasting appeal to children, such as dinosaurs and Dr. Seuss.
Family Science Adventures
These ongoing, drop-in activities allow families to experience together the wonder and curiosity of scientific discovery. Families might encounter a roving scientist who presents “hair-raising” electricity demonstrations using a Van de Graaff generator; meet TAM, the Transparent Anatomical Manikin, and learn about how our bodies work; enjoy a live animal demonstration with creatures from the Solutia Live Animal Center; or experiment with chemical reactions, the physical properties of light, and electrical circuits in the Science Discovery Laboratory.
Adventures and activities change from week to week! To view our current activity schedule, please see the Calendar.
Hasbro Games Art Discovery Center Activities
Brightly painted with murals of Samurai warriors, animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and Asian symbolism, the Art Discovery Center in the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum is the setting for participatory art activities. Children are invited to try on costumes and armor, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols, find their sign in the Chinese Zodiac, create make-it and take-it art projects and more.
