The Springfield Museums and the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden have volunteer opportunities available throughout the year in the following departments

Membership and Marketing, Education, Special Events, Public Programs, and Curatorial. General office help may include phones, mailings and database management and requires a minimum commitment of four hours per week.

Docent Program

The Museums actively search for volunteers who would like to learn more about art, history, or science and who would also enjoy leading Museum tours and programs for children and adults. No experience is necessary. We offer an extensive training program in the discipline of your choice. Active docents receive numerous privileges and educational opportunities including:

  • Free college level training program in art or science
  • Discounts on Museum School courses
  • Museum Store discounts
  • Docent newsletters
  • Free admission to Museums a la Carte programs
  • Invitations to docent social events including docent picnic, holiday luncheon, bus trips, and graduation/recognition events
  • Ongoing training training led by curators, scholars, and museum educators
