Art & Science Docent Programs

Docents are volunteer museum educators. No experience is necessary. We offer an extensive training program. If accepted, you'll conduct tours and educational programs for children and adults. Applicants are selected based on their qualifications and the number of docent openings available. Please read the following and fill out the application questions

Responsibilities: Conduct museum tours and educational programs.

Qualifications:

  • Anyone with a desire to work with people and an enthusiasm for art or science is a welcome candidate.
    People from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • The time commitment for training and touring is extensive. Trainings are held weekly fall-spring.
  • Docents commit to conduct several programs a year for two consecutive years after completion of docent training.

CONTRACT AGREEMENT

Upon acceptance into the docent program, I agree to fulfill all class requirements, remain in the docent program for a minimum of two years upon completion of the beginning docent course and give several programs per year.

I understate that a Criminal Offender Record (CORI) check will be done on anyone who receives an offer of employment or is a volunteer with the Springfield Museums Association. Furthermore I understand and acknowledge that any offer of employment or volunteer work is conditional on my CORI check and the offer may be rescinded or I may be dismissed if the Springfield Museums Association determines that the result of its review of my criminal record is unsuitable.
