Youth & FamilyThere's always something fun to do at the Springfield Museums and Dr. Seuss Sculpture Park! Many adventures and activities change from week to week. To view our current activity schedule, please see the Museum's calendar.Weekend Family Fun EventsEach program includes a performance, art and science demonstrations, and hands-on craft workshops in keeping with the theme of the program. Activities are designed to highlight holidays, special exhibitions, cultural traditions and topics with lasting appeal to children, such as dinosaurs and Dr. Seuss.Family Science AdventuresOngoing, drop-in activities that allow families to experience together the wonder and curiosity of scientific discovery. Families might encounter a "roving scientist" who presents "hair-raising" electricity demonstrations using a Van de Graaff generator; meet TAM, the Transparent Anatomical Manikin and learn about how our bodies work; enjoy a live animal demonstrations with creatures from the Solutia Live Animal Center; or experiment with chemical reactions, the physical properties of light, and electrical circuits in the Science Discovery Laboratory.Hasbro Games Art Discovery Center ActivitiesBrightly painted with murals of Samurai warriors, animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and Asian symbolism, the Art Discovery Center in the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum is the setting for participatory art activities. Children are invited to try on costumes and armor, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols, find their sign in the Chinese Zodiac, create make-it and take-it art projects and more.School Vacation Week ProgramsDuring school vacation weeks in December, February and April the Springfield Museums are open extended hours and children and families are invited to participate in a range of activities that may include children's theater, puppet shows, magic programs, art-making workshops, planetarium shows, storytelling, science demonstrations, and live animal programs.Birthday PartiesLooking for a unique birthday experience? The Springfield Museums offer two-hour Birthday Parties for children ages 4-12 on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Led by an experienced instructor in a private, decorated room, activities relate to one of five themes: Amazing Animals, Dynamic Dinosaurs, Journey Into Space, On the Loose with Dr. Seuss, and Asian Art Adventures.
